A Sample Game is a daily music quiz that turns the art of sampling into a game. Each round, you listen to a modern hit and guess which classic track it sampled. It is built for crate-diggers, hip-hop heads, soul fans, producers, DJs, and anyone curious about where their favorite songs actually come from. Whether you have five minutes with your morning coffee or want to challenge a friend head-to-head, there is a mode for you: the daily challenge and 1v1 battles all reward fast ears and deep musical knowledge.
Beyond the quiz, the website is a learning tool. Every reveal comes with a story — the history behind the sample, the lawsuit, the forgotten soul singer, the obscure jazz break that launched a thousand rap songs. You can explore artists, dig into genre roots, and build a personal stats dashboard that tracks your streak, accuracy, and the artists you have discovered. The goal is simple: listen, guess, learn, discover.
The project is built and curated by Bryan Gaillard, a France-based record collector and DJ, and listening bar owner who has lived in Paris, Mexico, and London. Years of digging through bins and programming nights for dancers shaped the taste behind every question. A Sample Game is his way of sharing that crate-digging obsession with the world — one sample at a time.
